Hollow Soffit, Tongue and Groove (T&G). All product comes in 5-metre lengths. Foiled hollow soffit boards are wood grained, a lookalike wood style finish. Standard smooth finishes are available in White, Dark Grey, Slate Grey, Black and Cream. Hollow soffit is not recommended for use as a wall cladding though its a really cheap to cover and update an old shed (used as cladding there are no manufactures guarantees).
Hollow soffit boards are best fitted short ways from the fascia board to the wall. Corners can be mitred on houses with hip roofs an H section is used a joint. Some houses require a starter trim to be fitted to hold the soffit on the wall side. As a rule, it's normally best to follow the installation methods of the way the previous soffit was installed. If you are covering the existing soffit a starter trim screwed up into the soffit at 300mm centres will hold the soffit on the wall side. If your windows are up tight to the bottom of the fascia board its worth keeping an eye on the heights to ensure the window wills still open. Some cover board fascia and soffit installation will require the bottom one inch of the existing timber fascia to be cut.
Boards covered with foil have the advantage of being colour fast for longer these boards do tend to have a textured finish and they are options as to the type of finish you can use. Smooth finish boards have been designed to be used more with aluminium window and door installations grained boards are a better match to most PVC window systems. Colours of foils do vary so keep an eye on the RAL colours when ordering and compare this to the RAL colour supplied by your window installer.
There are alternatives to using hollow soffits some customers do not want the tongue and groove effect wishing to have more of a flat finish to their soffits. Shiplap PVC solid tongue and groove boards also used as cladding are also used as an alternative finish by many customers.
