There are two types, and they have unique characteristics. The first option is a plain column without the flutes up the sides, and the second option is a fluted column with the moulded feature of flutes up the side. At first glance, you are probably thinking plain or fluted; however, these columns come in different sizes, so you may find that the height you have available of the height you had in mind only lets you choose one style or the other.

Installation.

How are columns fixed?

So this is a very important question. These plastic columns are the outer skin of concrete, so you will end up with concrete columns covered with a plastic-type finish. They can hold weight and weigh quite a bit, so you will need foundations to support them. The foundations will be concrete, so it's possible to add some steel reinforcing up through the columns. When the foundation is set, the column is placed in the required place and is levelled up with the other column in the pair. They will be filled with concrete when in the correct place and height. The concrete will push down when not set, which can split the columns, so they must be filled in a little over five days.

The columns should be filled to the top; the last few millimetres must be filled to the top in sand and cement after the concrete is finished. Now, the two columns should be filled to the top and solid. From here, you can build a traditional roof using the columns to support the wall plate, or you can move on to fix one of our portico door canopies.

Work

OK, it is quite a lot of work, but the results can be pretty stunning. It will create a grand entrance that will give people visiting your home an excellent first impression. Add a modern-day composite door and some lights in the canopy's ceiling; it will be a talking point forever. Although this set-up is often used for commercial entrances, many people order them for use in their usual residences. You can see from the picture above that they make a difference.
