All vents are subjected to 3 separate wind and rain penetration tests and a deluge test to simulate extremely harsh weather based on conditions developed as part of a DoE Partners in Technology Programme as used by the Building Research Establishment (BRE). All vents exceed the pass criteria under all conditions.

Functional Requirements To give at least 7200mm2 free ventilation. The vent should properly fit the surrounding slates. The head and side laps must conform to the surrounding slates. Suitable for fixing in accordance with BS5534: Part 1:2014. Give minimum cutting of battens and surrounding slates. The minimum Roof Pitch is 20 degrees.

Installation: Roofline Vents for Slate Roof

Complete roofing to one course below the position for the slate vent.
Hold vent in position as centrally as possible between the rafters and mark where the vent spigot touches the underlay. For 500mm x 250mm slates only - cut and remove section of batten.
Cut underlay in a cross, fold up and back, and nail over battens.
Cut slates for the next course below the vent.
Fit slate vent and nail to batten.
